KAMALA AND THE SEVEN THIEVES

What an amazing experience the puppet residency was!  We are all a little bit sad that it is over.  Your puppeteers were awesome from start to finish.  I have a link here to a video of our "Dress Rehearsal" which was video taped on Tuesday 4/4/17.  Feel free to invite friends and family who were not able to attend to click on the link to watch!

ECO CANCELLED 1/13/17 and a few other notes

Hi all,
I hope this email finds you well.  We have had quite a few viruses going around here at UES.  Make sure to do a LOT of handwashing.

Due to the icy conditions of the environment this week, we have decided to cancel our ECO hiking adventure for tomorrow and will postpone for a later date.  We are worried that it might be challenging to navigate Hubbard Park.
That said, it is important that your child bring a WINTER JACKET each day.  The weather has been and will be cold again.  The expectation is that children will have a winter coat when they go outside for recess when the weather is at or below freezing.  To err on the safe side, please send them with a winter coat each day.

There are some students who are forgetting to bring a snack in each day.  I try to keep a store of extra snack here in the room for kids who occasionally forget to pack something but I would like you to check with your child to see if they are consistently packing a snack or getting one from the school cafeteria.  There are some folks who I am providing snack for on a daily basis and I am finding myself running out of supplies quickly.

And lastly, the school policy asks that children do not bring toys from home to school.  The legos in the classroom have been very popular as of late and some kids are bringing some in from home to combine with our collection.  I have asked them not to do this unless they are willing to donate them permanently to our collection so as not to cause confusion or upset.

I promise I will have more positive thoughts to share with you in my next email and blog post.  We really have been having a wonderful time and doing wonderful learning here in room 215.  Just wanted to make sure to get all this info out to you as soon as possible.

Thank you!

Tuesday, November 22

Dear Third Grade Families,
One of the things I love best about this time of year is talking with your children about all the things they are thankful for.  They are insightful, thoughtful and full of love for their families and friends.  I hope you are able to take time this holiday to enjoy all that life brings.  I am thankful for all of you and for your wonderful children!  Thank you and have a wonderful, relaxing week full of love!

Becoming squirrels

Today we became squirrels in Hubbard Park. We tried to collect 7.5% of our body weight in squirrel food. This would be how much food squirrels need to survive ONE day in the winter. It was not nearly as easy as we thought! Turns out squirrels work hard in order to survive!

We are proud to honor our veterans today! Thank you for all your help with this project and a big thank you to those of you who were able to come walk with us and wave from the sidewalks. We love this opportunity to learn about and support our brave service people!
