Sunday Thoughts

Hi Everyone,
I think it has been a few weeks since I have posted here on the blog and I apologize.  It feels like time is just zipping by.  We finished up our oral presentation unit this last week.  We are thankful to our last presenters for waiting so long to have their turn.  We loved learning about each other, what is important to all of us and what we value!  See below for photos of our last presenters.

This week we begin a unit that gets us thinking about other people in the world (well known people) and how their values have helped them to overcome struggles or challenges in their lives that have helped them to make an impact on the world we live in. We call this unit Remarkable People Through History and we use narrative non-fiction texts to learn about many remarkable people.  I am sure your student will have lots of interesting people to tell you about.  Make sure to ask them how these people have made a difference in the world.

I always look forward to this time of year when we have the opportunity to sit down and hear your child share their third grade thoughts with us.  These conferences are STUDENT INVOLVED and your child will be doing reflection and preparation and will be expected to be there for the conference.

I have created a google sheet for signing up.  Please click on the link below and it will take you to the sheet.  You may choose an EMPTY space to write your name in.  Please do not write in a space that has XXXX in it (I am in meetings at that time) and do not write in a space that has someone else's name (already taken).  If it doesn't work, let me know and I can help out.

Have a wonderful Sunday and a great week!

Week of October 1

Hello everyone,
Happy Sunday.  I hope you had an amazing weekend.  I got to spend a day with my college boy.  It sure made this mama happy!

We had an incredible week last week in 3rd grade.  We heard awesome presentations from our presenters and went on a beautiful fall hike at New Discovery State Park.  I want to thank all of you who were able to join us and make the day possible.  We love the chance to hang out with each other, hike and build third grade community outside of the classroom!

This week coming up we have 4 more presenters.  Our presentation time has been changed once again (I apologize for this and thank you for your flexibility).  Our presenters will now be presenting at 10:00am except for this Monday which will be at 1:20pm.  Our presentations this week are as follows:

Monday, October 1 (at 1:20pm) - Michio
Tuesday, October 2 - Jonathan
Wednesday, October 3 - Omar
Thursday, October 4 - Faelen

We have no school on Friday, October 5 and Monday, October 8.

We are headed out to ECO on Monday morning.  We will leave at about 8:45 and return at 11:15.  The weather looks wet and cool. Please send your child with rain gear and waterproof boots.

See below for some photo highlights of our week!

Hi all!
Welcome to the first day of fall (and it really feels like it).  I hope you have had as great a week as we have had here in 3rd grade.  We have continued to learn the routines of the school and classroom and more specifically, we are learning about the routines of our academic parts of the day.

In reading workshop we are learning how to choose "Just Right" books, what to do if we want to abandon a book, and how to settle in for some sustained reading.  We are going to continue this learning next week as we learn how to record and talk about the books we are reading.

In math, we have been exploring our math mindsets.  We have learned about some brain research that scientists have discovered about how our brains grow (ask your student what happens when they make a mistake!) and have done some challenging math explorations in what we called a "Week of Inspirational Math".

And finally, we have continued learning about each other through our This is Me and What I Value presentations.  This week we heard from Juniper, Damien, Ella and Seamus!  See below for photos of our presenters in actions :)  Next week our presenters are as follows:

Monday, September 24 - Violet
Tuesday, September 25 - Isla
Wednesday, September 26 - Hazel
Thursday, September 27 - Cooper

We have our field trip to the New Discovery Nature Center at Osmore Pond on Friday.  If you have not returned the permission slip, please do so by Monday.

Our Open House is on Thursday evening.  I am thinking 6:00 but am not definite on that.  Information will be coming home about that soon.  I am looking forward to seeing you and letting your student share all that they have been doing here in room 210.

Have a great weekend!

Happy Friday!!

Hello Everyone!
I have to apologize for being slow in getting the blog up and running.  I am usually able to post from my phone and try to get pictures up right away but, well, I am having technical difficulties. is our first official post!

We have had an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING TIME here in third grade these first two short weeks of school.  We are loving getting to know each other and our space.  We have talked about things that are important to us, how we learn best and have begun to think about our hopes and goals for our third grade year together.  You will see some of the results of this process when you come for Open House on September 27th (more info coming on that)

We have jumped right into our first unit titled This is Me and What I Value.  I know some of your children have already begun working on their presentations at home.  So far, we have had presentations from me and Mr. Heraty.  Be sure to ask your student some things they learned about their new teacher AND their new principal :)  I sent an email with your child's presentation day.  But here is the schedule for next week:

Tuesday, September 11- Lulu
Wednesday, September 12 - Lachlan
Thursday, September 13 - Charlotte
Friday, September 14 - Jay

Check back here regularly for more information and learning coming out of Room 210.  In the meantime, here are a few pictures from our first few days of third grade!!!  Have a great weekend.

Good afternoon third grade families,

Welcome to third grade in room 210.  I am so excited you're here.  We had a wonderful first day and I am so looking forward to all the learning and fun to come.  I look forward to getting to know all of you; students and families alike.

There are so many things I want to tell you about and so many things I am sure you have questions about.  I also know it is hard to take in too much information at once so I will be sending along pertinent information in bite-size pieces as we enter into the first several weeks of school.

One thing that I will tell you right away is that starting today, our very first day, your student will be coming home with a Home/School Folder.  The expectation is that this folder will go back and forth from home to school each day.  It will often have important information from me and also is a great way for you to get important information to me.  Please help your child get into the habit of putting that in their school backpack each evening so it comes to me each day.  Today it will be coming home with homework for YOU :).  You can fill it out and send it back right in the folder at your earliest convenience.

This is Me and What I Believe

Our first unit of the school year is an integrated oral presentation, writing and social studies unit titled This is Me and What I Believe.  It ties in very well to our first six weeks of school social curriculum and is a great way for us to get to know each other.  I will have MUCH more information coming home about that in the next few days so please keep your eyes posted here and on the blog!

Follow that Blog!

Speaking of the blog…

This is the quickest and easiest way for me to get the most information to you.  You can find the blog at  There, you will find a place to “follow” the blog which will send you an email each time the blog is updated.  I try to fill it with photos and information that you might find interesting, along with academic information.

I think that may be enough information for now.  My door to communication is always open.  Please contact me with any comments, questions and concerns at any time.  I know it is going to be a wonderful year!
